Guides
This is the long-horizon section: the questions asked once, usually before the animal arrives, and then answered for the next fifteen years. Which breed suits the life you actually live rather than the one in the photograph. What a first year costs when nothing goes wrong, and what it costs when something does.
The breed pieces read from the breed catalogue, so where a figure appears — a weight, a lifespan, how many breeds a claim covers — it was measured rather than asserted. Temperament ratings get handled more carefully, because those are somebody's judgement, and the articles say whose.
The rest is the administration that turns out to matter: insurance that pays or does not, a microchip record that only helps if somebody keeps it current, and the arrangement almost nobody makes for who takes the animal if they no longer can.
These are also the pages where the catalogue does the least work. A breed's measured weight and lifespan come from data; whether a beagle suits a flat is a judgement, and the articles say which of the two they are doing at any moment.
