Fun facts

This section is a by-product of building the rest of the site. Counting a catalogue properly turns up things nobody set out to look for: that four of the eight cat-breed ratings cannot separate one breed from another, or that a handful of popular names hold more of the register than the entire rare tail combined.

Everything here is a measurement with the measurement shown, which is the only reason it is worth reading rather than the same trivia that circulates everywhere else. Where a figure would be interesting and the data does not support it, the piece says that instead of estimating.

A few of these are not statistics at all but the questions people actually ask about their animals — why a cat kneads, why a dog tilts its head, whether dogs dream. Those are answered from research where research exists and left open where it does not, which is more often than the confident version of the answer suggests.

Nothing here was written to be surprising. Each page states what was counted, over how many rows, and what the figure does not cover — which is usually the more interesting half, and always the half that goes missing when trivia travels.
