Ragdoll

The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired cat with blue eyes and a colourpoint coat, named for its tendency to go limp and relaxed when picked up.

History

It was developed in California in the 1960s by breeder Ann Baker, selected for a docile, placid temperament and a silky coat. It has since become one of the most popular pedigreed cats.

Temperament

The breed is known for being gentle, affectionate and remarkably relaxed — often following its people and happy to be handled. That calm nature is the breed's signature.

Care

The semi-long coat needs regular brushing but mats less than some longhairs. A big, placid indoor cat, it suits a calm household and steady company.

Health

The main known tendency is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, for which responsible breeders test. This is a pattern for the breed rather than a verdict on one cat; the measured facts and trait ratings are in the panels.
