Mallorcan Ratter

The Ca Rater Mallorquí is Mallorca's ratting terrier — a small, smooth-coated farm dog recognised as a Balearic native breed.

History

It worked the farms and mills of Mallorca against rats and mice, and was also used on rabbit. Like the other Balearic breeds it was maintained by farmers rather than by breeders, and formal recognition is recent.

Temperament

The breed is known for being lively, alert and attached to its people, with a terrier's confidence and a strong instinct to hunt vermin.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and a secure garden. The short coat is easy. It is intelligent and takes to training that keeps it interested.
