Gos Rater Valencià

The Gos Rater Valencià is a small Valencian ratting terrier — a farm and barn dog from eastern Spain, and one of the region's recognised native breeds.

History

It kept rats down in the barracas and orchards of the Valencian countryside, and was later used in organised ratting contests. Regional recognition arrived in the twenty-first century, formalising a farm dog that had been there far longer.

Temperament

The breed is known for being quick, bold and affectionate with its household — terrier in manner, with the sharp attention and readiness to dig that implies.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and a secure garden. The short coat needs almost nothing. Training works best short and rewarded.
