Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is a British gun dog, worked up in the United Kingdom from the St. John's water dogs shipped over from Newfoundland — the "Labrador" in the name points at the region those dogs came through, not at where the breed was finished. It was bred to retrieve game to hand, and that willing, soft-mouthed temperament is a large part of why it became one of the most commonly kept dogs across the Western world.
