DenMark Feist

The Denmark Feist is an American squirrel dog — a small, fast treeing feist bred in the south-eastern United States for hunting squirrel on foot.

History

Feists are the small counterparts of the curs: quick, quiet-working dogs kept by American hunters for small game. The Denmark line was developed in the twentieth century and is registered by working associations rather than by the major kennel clubs.

Temperament

The breed is known for being keen, energetic and affectionate with its household, intensely focused on anything that climbs.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and a real outlet for the treeing instinct; it is a hunting dog rather than a companion breed. The short coat needs nothing.
