American Bully

The American Bully is a modern American breed developed from the American Pit Bull Terrier and other bulldog types, bred specifically as a companion rather than a working dog.

History

It was created in the United States from the 1980s and 90s, selecting for a broader, heavier build and a markedly steadier temperament than its founding stock. It is recognised by several registries in multiple size varieties, and the largest of those varieties has attracted legal restrictions in some countries, including a ban on the XL type in parts of the United Kingdom.

Temperament

The breed is known for being confident, affectionate and people-oriented, bred deliberately away from dog aggression and towards a companion temperament. Individual variation is wide, and so is breeding quality.

Care and training

It needs moderate daily exercise, early socialising and consistent training. The short coat is easy; the broad head means heat deserves care. Check local law before acquiring one, since restrictions vary by country and by variety.

Health
