Pug

The Pug is a small companion breed with a wrinkled, short-muzzled face and a tightly curled tail — a compact, square-bodied dog bred entirely for company.

History

It is an old breed with roots in China, kept as a lapdog and a courtly favourite for centuries before becoming a popular companion across Europe. Its fine smooth coat is usually fawn or black.

Temperament

The breed is known for being affectionate, even-tempered and sociable, happiest close to its people. It is playful without being demanding and generally good with children and other pets.

Care and training

Exercise needs are modest, met with short walks and play, and the coat is easy to keep though it sheds. Heat is the real hazard: a flat-faced dog overheats fast and must be kept cool.

Health
