Continental Bulldog

The Continental Bulldog is a Swiss breed created to be a bulldog that can breathe, run and whelp naturally — a deliberate health project rather than a revival.

History

It began in Switzerland in the 2000s, crossing English Bulldogs with the Olde English Bulldogge to lengthen the muzzle, lighten the build and restore natural birth. Swiss registries recognised it in 2004, and breeding requirements include an exercise-tolerance test, which is unusual and is the point of the breed.

Temperament

The breed is known for being friendly, steady and attentive, with the bulldog's easy disposition and more energy than the English Bulldog has.

Care and training

It needs moderate daily exercise — more than a Bulldog and comfortably within a normal household — and consistent training. The short coat is easy; any facial folds want cleaning.

Health
