Kokoni

The Kokoni is Greece's small native companion dog — the ordinary household dog of Greek towns and villages, standardised only recently.

History

Small dogs of this outline appear in Greek art from antiquity, and the Kokoni has been the common domestic dog of Greece for as long as anyone has recorded it. The Greek kennel club drew up a standard in the twenty-first century for what had until then been simply the dog everybody had; the name means, roughly, "little one".

Temperament

The breed is known for being cheerful, affectionate and quick to attach, sociable with people and generally easy with other dogs, and inclined to announce visitors.

Care and training

Exercise needs are modest and easily met on walks. The medium coat needs regular brushing. It trains readily and does not like being left alone for long.

Health
