Bully Kutta

The Bully Kutta is a very large guarding mastiff of Pakistan and north-western India, also called the Pakistani Mastiff.

History

It has guarded livestock and property across the Punjab and Sindh for centuries, and its name is usually read as a compound of the local words for "heavily wrinkled" and "dog". It is also used in organised dog fighting in parts of the region, which is illegal and which has shaped a portion of the breeding away from the guarding temperament.

Temperament

The breed is known for being dominant, territorial and closely bonded to its handler, with very low tolerance for strange dogs. It is not a beginner's dog under any reading.

Care and training

It needs space, secure boundaries, sustained socialising and an experienced, consistent owner. Exercise needs are moderate but the containment requirement is absolute. The short coat is easy.

Health
