Brazilian Terrier

The Brazilian Terrier is a lively, agile terrier from Brazil — a compact tricolour ratter and companion built on European fox terrier stock.

History

It developed in Brazil from small terriers brought over by European settlers, crossed with local dogs into a hardy farm and town dog that cleared vermin and kept watch. It is one of the few breeds native to Brazil.

Temperament

The breed is known for being energetic, alert and clever, affectionate with its family and quick to sound the alarm, with the strong prey drive and independent streak of a terrier. It is restless without an outlet.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and mental work, secure fencing against its hunting instinct, and consistent, reward-based training. The short coat is easy to keep.
