Mudi

The Mudi is a versatile Hungarian herding dog with a wavy coat — an agile, alert farm dog that turns its hand to droving, guarding and vermin control alike.

History

It emerged in Hungary from the country's herding stock, developed as an all-purpose farm dog rather than bred to a fixed type until the twentieth century. It remains uncommon outside its homeland, kept mostly as a working and sport dog.

Temperament

The breed is known for being energetic, intelligent and courageous — a devoted, alert dog that is quick to learn and quick to sound the alarm. It bonds closely and needs a job to stay content.

Care and training

It needs a great deal of exercise and mental work and excels at herding and dog sports, taking eagerly to reward-based training. The wavy coat needs only moderate grooming.

Health
