Liangshan Dog

The Liangshan Dog is a hunting dog of the Yi people in the mountains of southern Sichuan.

History

It comes from the Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, high country in south-west China, where Yi families kept it for hunting and guarding. It is a landrace shaped by mountain conditions and isolation rather than a standardised breed, and documentation outside China is scarce.

Temperament

The breed is known for being alert, hardy and attached to its household, wary of strangers and independent at work.

Care and training

It needs substantial exercise and secure boundaries. The dense coat suits mountain cold and sheds seasonally.

Health

Generally hardy from natural selection; nothing is documented as breed-specific. These are patterns for the landrace rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
