Xiasi Dog

The Xiasi is a white hunting dog from Guizhou in south-west China, kept by the Miao people and reputed to bring wealth.

History

It comes from Xiasi town in Guizhou, where Miao families have bred it for hunting boar and small game in mountain forest. Local tradition holds that a good Xiasi brings prosperity to the household, which has kept demand for it alive; it is distinguished by a white coat over dark skin and a wiry outline.

Temperament

The breed is known for being brave, energetic and loyal to its own household, alert with strangers and strongly driven to hunt.

Care and training

It needs substantial exercise and secure boundaries. The harsh white coat needs brushing and little else.

Health

Generally hardy; nothing is widely documented as breed-specific. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
