Sarail Hound

The Sarail Hound is a rare Bangladeshi hunting dog from the Sarail area of Brahmanbaria — one of very few recognised native breeds of the country.

History

It was kept by local landowners as a hunting and guarding dog, and its ancestry is usually traced to sighthound stock brought into the region. Numbers have fallen very low and conservation efforts in Bangladesh have had limited success.

Temperament

The breed is reported to be alert, fast and loyal to its keeper, reserved with strangers and possessed of a strong hunting instinct.

Care and training

It needs room to run and secure boundaries. The short coat needs little.
