Perros

Plummer Terrier

The Plummer Terrier is a British working terrier made in the twentieth century by a writer who documented every step of it.

History

Brian Plummer, a schoolmaster and prolific author on working dogs, began the breed in the 1960s from Jack Russell, Beagle, Bull Terrier and Fell Terrier stock, wanting a hard ratting terrier of consistent type. He wrote about the process at length, so its construction is better recorded than almost any other terrier's. It remains registered by working associations rather than kennel clubs.

Temperament

The breed is known for being intense, courageous and driven, affectionate with its own people and thoroughly focused on quarry — a working terrier that needs the work.

Care and training

It needs substantial exercise and a secure garden, and an owner who will give it a job. The short coat is easy.

Health

Generally robust; a narrow founding base is the standing caution. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
