Kintamani

The Kintamani is Bali's native dog — a spitz-type breed from the mountain village of Kintamani, and the first Indonesian breed to gain international recognition.

History

It developed in the highlands around Kintamani from the free-ranging Bali dog population, with the long coat and upright ears that distinguish it from the lowland dogs. Indonesian and later international recognition came in the twenty-first century, and it remains closely tied to Balinese village life.

Temperament

The breed is known for being alert, independent and territorial, affectionate with its own household and suspicious of strangers. It keeps much of the free-ranging dog's self-reliance.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and secure boundaries, and early socialising given the territorial streak. The medium double coat needs regular brushing.

Health
