Chien Français Blanc Et Noir

The Chien Français Blanc et Noir is the white-and-black member of the three French pack hounds, bred for deer and roe.

History

Like its tricolour and orange relatives it comes from the nineteenth-century rebuilding of French packs after the Revolution, crossing surviving French hounds — the Saintongeois among them — with English Foxhounds. The three breeds were fixed by colour in the twentieth century and are otherwise the same working dog.

Temperament

The breed is known for being sociable, steady and enduring, comfortable in a large pack and possessed of a carrying voice.

Care and training

It needs a very great deal of exercise and secure ground, and it is genuinely unsuited to ordinary household life. The short coat is easy; the drop ears want checking.

Health
