LaPerm

The LaPerm is a cat defined by its coat of soft curls and waves, the result of a spontaneous dominant mutation on an Oregon farm — a "rex" that comes in short and long-haired forms.

History

It began in 1982 with a single curly-coated kitten born to a barn cat, and the trait was bred on from there. The curls extend even to the whiskers, and the coat can range from waves to tight ringlets.

Temperament

The breed is known for being affectionate, active and inquisitive — a people-oriented cat that seeks out laps and shoulders and stays curious and playful. It is gentle and sociable.

Care

The curly coat sheds little and needs only gentle, occasional grooming; over-brushing can loosen the curl. It asks mainly for company and play.

Health

The breed is generally healthy, and the curl gene carries no known associated health problems. As with any cat, the measured facts and trait ratings are in the panels.
