Colorpoint Shorthair

The Colorpoint Shorthair is a Siamese-type cat in point colours the traditional Siamese does not carry — reds, creams, tortie and lynx points — with the same slender build and vivid blue eyes.

History

It was developed by crossing Siamese with other short-haired cats to introduce the extra point colours, then breeding back to Siamese type. Registries treat it variously as its own breed or a division of the Siamese, but its look and character are unmistakably Siamese.

Temperament

The breed is known for being intensely social, talkative and people-focused — a demanding, affectionate cat that wants a part in everything and dislikes being left alone. It is active and intelligent.

Care

The short coat is easy to keep with occasional grooming; the real commitment is company, since a lone Colorpoint is an unhappy one. It stays playful and engaged for years.
