Brittany

The Brittany is a compact, athletic French gundog — a versatile pointer and retriever often mistaken for a spaniel.

History

It was developed in the Brittany region of France as an all-round hunter's dog, able to find, point and retrieve game across varied country. Bred for work in the field, it is quick, birdy and built for a full day outdoors.

Temperament

The breed is known for being energetic, friendly and eager to please, a sensitive dog that bonds closely and wants to be busy. It is affectionate at home but needs a genuine outlet for its drive.

Care and training

It needs a great deal of exercise and mental work, and its sensitivity rewards gentle, positive training over any heavy hand. The medium coat needs regular brushing, and the drop ears need checking.

Health
