Ca Rater Mallorquí

The Ca Rater Mallorquí is Mallorca's ratting terrier, kept in farmhouses and mills across the island.

History

It worked the possessions — the traditional Mallorcan farmsteads — against rats around grain stores and animal sheds, and it belongs to the same Balearic family as the Ca de Bou and the Ca Mè. Mallorcan breeders documented and standardised it in the twenty-first century after the working population had thinned considerably.

Temperament

The breed is known for being lively, brave and closely attached to its household, alert to arrivals and relentless with vermin.

Care and training

It needs regular exercise and a secure garden. The short coat needs almost nothing.
