Pampas Deerhound

The Pampas Deerhound — the Veadeiro Pampeano — is a Brazilian sighthound-type hunting dog from the grasslands of Rio Grande do Sul.

History

It was bred by ranchers on the southern Brazilian plains to hunt deer and other game across open country, from European sighthound and hound stock brought to the region. It remains a working dog with a small population.

Temperament

The breed is known for being fast, determined and attached to its household, calm at rest and single-minded in pursuit.

Care and training

It needs room to run and secure fencing, and the prey drive is real. The short coat needs little.

Health
