The Italian Rough-Haired Segugio is an ancient Italian scent hound — the wire-coated form of the Segugio Italiano, bred to hunt hare and boar over rough country.

History

The segugio is one of the oldest hound types of Italy, depicted since antiquity and prized for a fine nose and tireless drive; the rough-haired variety carries a harsh coat suited to thorny, difficult terrain. It hunts by scent, alone or in a pack.

Temperament
