Bearded Collie

The Bearded Collie — the Beardie — is a Scottish herding breed under a long, shaggy coat, lively and exuberant by nature.

History

It was worked for centuries in Scotland as a drover's and shepherd's dog, moving sheep and cattle across rough country in all weathers, the long coat its protection. It was a working hill dog long before it became a show and companion breed.

Temperament

The breed is known for being bouncy, energetic and friendly — an enthusiastic, sometimes boisterous dog that stays playful for years and bonds warmly with its family. It is bright and can be vocal.

Care and training
