Colombian Fino Hound

The Colombian Fino Hound — Sabueso Fino Colombiano — is Colombia's native scent hound, worked in tropical forest and mountain.

History

It descends from Spanish hounds brought during the colonial period, crossed with local dogs and shaped by Colombian terrain: humid forest, steep ground and thick cover. It is used on paca, agouti and small game, and Colombian associations breed it on working ability rather than appearance.

Temperament

The breed is known for being energetic, persistent and sociable, friendly with people and thoroughly committed on a scent, with a clear carrying voice.

Care and training

It needs a great deal of exercise and secure ground. The short coat suits heat and needs nothing; the drop ears want routine checking.

Health
