Schillerstövare
The Schillerstövare is a fast Swedish hare hound named for the farmer who presented it at Sweden's first dog show.
History
Per Schiller showed a pair of tan-and-black hounds in Stockholm in 1886 that impressed the judges enough to found a breed, and Swedish breeders developed it from his stock with German and Austrian hound blood. It is notably faster than most scent hounds and works alone rather than in a pack, tracking hare and fox over snow.
Temperament
The breed is known for being lively, friendly and eager, attached to its household and single-minded once it has a line.
Care and training
It needs a great deal of exercise and secure ground. The short coat is easy and the drop ears want checking.
Health
Generally robust from working selection, with ear infections the usual complaint. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
