Burgos Pointer

The Perdiguero de Burgos is a Spanish pointing dog in a liver-and-white ticked coat — a heavy-boned, steady gun dog from the Castilian plateau.

History

It is one of the older Iberian pointing breeds, documented from the sixteenth century, and contributed to several other pointing dogs including breeds in Portugal and Latin America. It works partridge and hare over the hard dry ground of Burgos.

Temperament

The breed is known for being calm, obedient and even-tempered, a methodical worker rather than a fast one, and settled at home.

Care and training

It needs plenty of exercise and hunting work; it trains readily. The short coat needs little, though the heavy drop ears want routine cleaning.

Health
