Trigg Hound
The Trigg Hound is an American foxhound strain bred in Kentucky, and it is named for the man whose studbook defines it.
History
Haiden Trigg of Glasgow, Kentucky, spent the second half of the nineteenth century breeding from the Birdsong and Maupin foxhound lines to produce a faster, more driving hound for Kentucky fox hunting. It is registered as a strain by American hunting associations rather than as a kennel-club breed, which is how most working American foxhounds are kept.
Temperament
The breed is known for being sociable in a pack, tolerant with people and single-minded on a line, with the speed its breeder selected for.
Care and training
It needs a very great deal of exercise and secure ground; it is a pack hound rather than a household dog. The short coat is easy.
Health
Generally robust from working selection, with ear infections the usual complaint. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
