Hmong Bobtail Dog
The H'Mông Bobtail is a naturally short-tailed Vietnamese mountain dog kept by the H'Mông people of the northern highlands.
History
It has lived with H'Mông communities in the mountains along the Chinese border for centuries, used for hunting and guarding, and the short tail is a natural trait rather than a docking practice. Vietnamese police and border units have taken an interest in it, and it is one of the country's four recognised native breeds.
Temperament
The breed is known for being intelligent, agile and strongly bonded to its household, alert and territorial, with a good memory for terrain and people.
Care and training
It needs substantial exercise and secure boundaries, and early socialising given the territorial streak. The dense coat needs regular brushing.
Health
Generally hardy; nothing is widely documented as breed-specific. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
