Levriero Sardo
The Levriero Sardo is Sardinia's sighthound, a lean coursing dog of the island's interior.
History
It coursed hare and rabbit across the Sardinian scrub and stony uplands, kept by rural hunters rather than by any registry, and it belongs loosely to the wider Mediterranean sighthound family. Italian breeders have worked to document it, but the population remains small and island-bound.
Temperament
The breed is known for being quiet and undemanding at rest and wholly committed in pursuit, attached to its own household and reserved with strangers.
Care and training
It needs room to run and secure fencing. The short coat needs nothing and gives no warmth.
Health
Sighthound anaesthetic sensitivity applies; nothing else is documented. These are patterns for the breed rather than a forecast for one dog; the measured facts are in the panel.
